Description
The National Institutes of Health (NIH), specifically the National Institute on Aging (NIA) Center for Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias (CARD), intends to sole-source procure brand-name Oxford Nanopore long-read RNA sequencing consumables. These consumables are required to support the CARD's induced Pluripotent Stem Cell Neurodegenerative Disease Initiative (iNDI). The purchase includes Oxford Nanopore PromethION Flow Cells (Catalog No. FLO-PRO114M, Quantity 171) and cDNA-PCR Sequencing Kits V14 (Catalog No. SQK-PCS114, Quantity 114). These supplies are critical for large-scale long-read RNA sequencing of 600 postmortem human brain samples. The goal is to characterize gene expression and isoform diversity in aging and neurodegenerative brains, supporting research into Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and the molecular biology of brain aging. The required flow cells must achieve over 99% modal accuracy and be compatible with the government's existing Oxford Nanopore PromethION 48 sequencers. The cDNA-PCR Sequencing Kit must be efficient with RNA starting material and provide for 6 reactions. The government's need for brand-name Oxford Nanopore consumables is due to the proprietary nature of the products and their specific design for the PromethION 48 system. Non-proprietary consumables are not interchangeable. This acquisition is being conducted under the statutory authority of 41 U.S.C. 3304(a)(1) and FAR 6.302-1, citing only one responsible source and no other supplies or services satisfying agency requirements.
