Description
The Texas Racing Commission (TXRC) is issuing a Request for Proposal (RFP) for Stewards in Training to perform complex legal and technical work as racing stewards/judges under the Texas Racing Act and Commission Rules. Services include interpreting and enforcing racing laws, conducting hearings, overseeing live races, reviewing occupational license applications, and serving as liaisons with racetrack management. Work will be performed at various Texas racetracks including Gillespie County Fair, Retama Race Park, Lone Star Park, and Sam Houston Race Park. The contract term runs from execution through August 31, 2026, with up to three additional one-year renewal options. Individual blanket contracts will not exceed $75,000 per fiscal year. Payment is hourly: $55/hour for two or more consecutive days worked, $40/hour for a single day. Travel expenses are not reimbursed. Minimum qualifications include 3 years of relevant industry experience, passing an optical exam, and eligibility for ROAP Flat Racing Steward Level III certification.
