The U.S. Department of Energy is seeking applicants for the ASPECT Notice of Funding Opportunity to support research, development, and pre-pilot testing of innovative technologies that produce chemicals from alternative and waste feedstocks. Topic Area 1 supports advancement from early-stage research through bench scale and development of critical unit operations, while Topic Area 2 supports design, construction, and operation of integrated pre-pilot facilities. The opportunity anticipates approximately 10 cooperative-agreement awards, with estimated total program funding of $58,000,000. Individual awards are expected to range from $2,000,000 to $20,000,000, and cost sharing is required. A concept paper is required before submission of a full application. Eligibility varies by topic area and organizational type; higher-education institutions, federal agencies, federal research and development centers, and the National Energy Technology Laboratory have specific recipient and subrecipient limitations.
