Description
The U.S. Department of Agriculture seeks a sole-source contractor to perform a turnkey reload of approximately 20,000 curies of cobalt-60 in a Foss Therapy Model 484F-C cobalt-60 irradiator. The work includes supplying and installing NRC-approved sealed source capsules; transporting, securing, removing, and disposing of depleted radioactive sources; cleaning source tubes and rods; optimizing source spacing; conducting radiation surveys and dose-rate mapping; providing source certifications, leak-test certificates, decay charts, isodose curves, transfer documentation, and a written safety and emergency work plan; and supplying any necessary shielding or material-handling equipment. The contractor must hold the required Nuclear Regulatory Commission or Agreement State authorizations, meet applicable Department of Transportation requirements for Type B radioactive-material transportation, and provide Trustworthy and Reliable determination documentation. The scope also includes preventive maintenance and testing of the irradiator's mechanical, electrical, interlock, and safety systems; incidental repairs; written reporting; and refresher training for USDA personnel. Performance is scheduled between November 2026 and February 2027, with the work plan due within three weeks after award and RSO concurrence required before work begins. The notice is a sole-source presolicitation, although responsible sources may submit capability statements for consideration of a competitive procurement.
