Description
Hennepin County’s Environment and Energy Department is seeking applications for its 2027 Food Rescue Grant program. Eligible projects must collect, redistribute, and/or process edible retail or prepared food that would otherwise be discarded, with activities conducted within Hennepin County. Eligible expenses include food-recovery storage infrastructure, processing equipment and materials, staffing, collection vehicles and equipment, measurement devices, coordination or inventory software, and other County-approved food-recovery costs. Food purchases not destined for disposal, food disposal, and trash, recycling, or compost bins are ineligible. An estimated $400,000 is available, with no minimum project amount or match requirement. A single organization may request up to $100,000, while collaborating organizations may request up to $150,000. The County anticipates multiple awards. Applications must include a cover letter, the completed Food Rescue Grant Application, a completed Budget Template, and supporting documentation as applicable. Evaluation will consider project need, the service plan and budget, partnerships, demonstrated experience, equity commitment, and cost. Selected applicants will enter into agreements lasting 12 to 18 months and submit a W-9 for reimbursement.
