The project consists of fire-resiliency treatments across 239 acres, including prescribed and/or cultural burning, hand fire-containment-line creation, hand thinning, pile burning, and mechanical brush reduction. The stated purpose is to reduce fuel loads and the risk of catastrophic wildfire while supporting meadow restoration and environmental protection. The notice identifies the California Department of Fish and Wildlife as the lead public agency and the Karuk Tribe as the entity carrying out the project in partnership with the agency. It is exempt under California Environmental Quality Act categorical exemptions for minor vegetation alterations and actions by regulatory agencies for environmental protection.
