Broward County Transit is preparing a future RFP for a turnkey, cloud-hosted computer-aided dispatch/automatic vehicle location (CAD/AVL) system to replace its aging system. The draft scope includes onboard hardware and software for fixed-route buses, community shuttles, contracted vehicles, and non-revenue vehicles; central dispatch and communications functions; vehicle tracking and schedule-adherence monitoring; passenger announcements and information; garage and yard management; reporting; and integration with existing transit, scheduling, maintenance, fare, radio, and passenger-counting systems. Optional components include transfer-connection protection, collision-avoidance integration, real-time information dissemination, infotainment signage, and enhanced farebox integration. The anticipated work also includes system design, data and system migration, installation, integration, testing, training, warranty, maintenance, spare parts, and ongoing support. The draft describes a five-year initial contract with five one-year renewal options, but the notice emphasizes that this is a draft for informational purposes and that dates and requirements may change.
