Description
The Bureau of Justice Assistance is soliciting grant applications for projects that improve the quality of legal representation in state capital cases. Eligible applicants are state government entities in states that authorize capital punishment and conduct, or will conduct, capital prosecutions. States must allocate funding equally between capital prosecution and capital representation, and only one application may be submitted per applicant or project. Funded activities may include specialized training, standards and qualifications for prosecutors and defense counsel, case review, forensic testing, victim services, attorney qualification frameworks, and other support and resources for competent representation of indigent defendants. Awards are anticipated to be up to $450,000 for a 36-month period beginning January 1, 2027. Applications require submissions through Grants.gov and JustGrants, including an SF-424, proposal abstract, proposal narrative, budget, required certifications, and applicable supporting documents.
