The City of Los Angeles is soliciting bids from only five specifically identified prequalified contractors as prime contractors: Calex Engineering; Clarke Contracting; Jilk Heavy Construction, Inc.; Mike Prlich & Sons, Inc.; and Mladen Buntich Construction Company. The project addresses a public-safety threat from an encroaching slope and debris at 2735 Whittier Boulevard in the Boyle Heights neighborhood. The work includes constructing an approximately 10.5-foot-tall, 16-linear-foot cantilevered bulkhead retaining structure with three cast-in-drilled-hole piles, cast-in-place reinforced-concrete retaining walls, and a grade beam. The structure will extend approximately six inches below sidewalk grade, and a portion of the sidewalk will be removed and reconstructed. The estimate is $144,125.00. A bid bond is not identified; the successful bidder must provide payment and performance bonds, each for at least 100 percent of the task bid price. Addendum 1 replaces one plan sheet.
