Description
The U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Environmental Management is seeking expressions of interest from organizations interested in reusing surplus critical minerals and materials from DOE inventories. Respondents should describe their material needs, technical capabilities and experience with handling, processing, mining, or extraction; proposed quantities and scalability; anticipated applications and domestic market demand; benefits to U.S. energy and manufacturing supply chains; potential collaboration with DOE; technical, logistical, and regulatory challenges; waste and byproduct management; and possible interest in leasing land or developing processing facilities. The attached inventory materials include processed metals and other materials at secure DOE sites, including aluminum, copper, tungsten, silver, platinum, selenium, lithium hydride, cesium-137 chloride, fluorine, lead, and vanadium-bearing uranium mill tailings. Potential activities may involve extraction, reprocessing, decontamination, radiological controls, characterization, transportation, and recycling. DOE will not provide funding or compensation for responses, and this notice is not a funding opportunity or binding procurement. Responses are limited to five pages and must be submitted as a Microsoft Word document no larger than 2 MB, using black 12-point Times New Roman font and 1-inch margins.
