Description
The Town seeks an attorney to serve as Assistant Solicitor for criminal prosecutions. The work includes prosecuting municipal misdemeanor cases in District and Family Court, handling Extreme Risk Protection Orders in Superior Court, and related appeals when necessary. The attorney will advise the Police Chief and personnel, provide weekly written case summaries, and may provide in-service training on criminal laws, procedures, and court rulings. The attorney must be admitted to practice in Rhode Island and have at least 10 years of general legal practice experience, including at least five years in criminal prosecutions. The approved budget is $46,773. Proposers must disclose disciplinary actions and malpractice claims from the prior 10 years, provide professional references, describe actual or potential conflicts of interest, and submit evidence of professional liability coverage of at least $2 million per claim, including the policy cover page. The selected attorney or firm may not transfer or subcontract the agreement without Town Council consent.
