Description
The City seeks proposals from New Jersey-licensed attorneys or law firms to serve as Municipal Public Defender from January 1 through December 31, 2027, subject to termination by the City Council. Services include representing indigent defendants, attending regular and special Municipal Court sessions, plea negotiations and trials, pretrial discovery and investigation, securing experts when needed, and preparing legal research, briefs, motions, and memoranda. The selected provider must be in good standing to practice law in New Jersey and have at least three years of experience as a Municipal Public Defender. Applicants must address their qualifications and experience, including municipal court procedure, relevant New Jersey law, non-municipal court matters, disciplinary history, malpractice suits, arrests or convictions, office location and resources, and requested compensation. The proposal must include a resume or other documentation demonstrating minimum qualifications, required Pay to Play forms, and the completed combined certification concerning prohibited activities in Russia and Belarus and investment activities in Iran. Applicants must also be available for the included 2027 court schedule. Compensation will be negotiated with the applicant deemed most advantageous.
