San Luis Obispo County is soliciting bids for the Knollwood Hazard Tree Removal Project. The project involves the removal of dead and dying trees, primarily blue gum eucalyptus, and the reduction of accumulated downed woody fuel on approximately 80.38 acres in Nipomo, California. Work will be performed using a combination of heavy equipment (chippers, excavator feller-buncher, skid-steer) and hand crews. Dead and dying trees will be cut and transported to small landings for chipping on-site, with chips likely used for landscaping. Hand crews will thin dense brush, collect downed woody fuel, and prune live trees, with slash chipped and spread evenly on-site. The project is directed by the County Fire Safe Council and aims to reduce wildfire risk. The work is exempt from CEQA under Categorical Exemptions Class 1 and 4, and the general rule that the project will not have a significant effect on the environment.
