Description
Milwaukee County is soliciting bids for comprehensive regulated medical waste services primarily supporting the Medical Examiner's Office. The scope includes collection, transportation, treatment, and lawful disposal of pathological and biohazardous waste generated through autopsy, laboratory, and related forensic operations, including blood- and body-fluid-contaminated materials, disposable personal protective equipment, absorbent materials, sharps, and occasional formalin-containing tissue jars. The County anticipates approximately 1,000 pounds of regulated medical waste per weekly pickup, approximately 52,000 pounds annually, with one weekly pickup of approximately 30–50 container exchanges. Vendors must provide, exchange, maintain, clean, and sanitize suitable containers; a 43-gallon container is acceptable if it has caster-base options, but a smaller container is not acceptable. Pricing must identify per-pound or per-container treatment and disposal charges, container service, scheduled and emergency pickup fees, environmental, fuel, regulatory, and other surcharges, with no undisclosed fees. The bid worksheet must be completed for all line items, and the County may evaluate total cost of ownership. The initial contract term is one year, with up to two additional one-year extensions by mutual agreement. A bid bond is not required.
