The National Marine Fisheries Service Southeast Fisheries Science Center is seeking competitive research proposals to advance science-based management of Atlantic bluefin tuna. Eligible projects must address at least one stated priority, including tissue and genetic sampling, DNA sampling of recreational catch-and-release fisheries, research on spawning areas, electronic and genetic tagging, fishery-independent abundance or mortality estimation, or integration of satellite remote sensing and oceanographic modeling. Collaboration with the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas and other partners is strongly encouraged, and applicants must include a written agreement with a National Marine Fisheries Service employee who will participate as a research partner. Approximately $600,000 may be available for about five cooperative-agreement awards, ranging from $25,000 to $300,000. Awards may support a single period of up to 18 months or multiyear projects not exceeding four years, subject to funding availability. Applications must include the required federal forms, project synopsis, project description, data management plan, budget and justification, resumes, NOAA NEPA Questionnaire, participant agreements, and other specified supporting materials. Construction activities are not allowable, and no cost sharing is required.
