The County of New Hanover, North Carolina is proceeding with the issuance of up to $320,525,000 in General Obligation School Bonds. These bonds are intended to finance capital costs associated with constructing, improving, and renovating school facilities. This includes the construction and renovation of classroom facilities, the acquisition and installation of furnishings and equipment, land acquisition, and related public infrastructure development. Taxes will be levied in an amount sufficient to pay the principal and interest on these bonds. Preliminary estimates suggest a property tax increase of $0.005 per $100 of assessed valuation will be required. The bond order is subject to approval by the voters of the County in a referendum scheduled for November 3, 2026. A sworn statement of the County's debt and preliminary estimates of interest payments and tax impact are available for public inspection.
