Description
Siuslaw School District 97J, located in Florence, Oregon, is applying for a Student Investment Account (SIA) grant from the Oregon Department of Education. The district serves approximately 1,360 students with 65% qualifying for free or reduced lunch and 16% receiving special education services. The SIA funds will be used over three years to address students' mental and behavioral health needs and reduce disparities for historically underserved students, including students with disabilities and those from underserved racial/ethnic groups. Key initiatives include adding instructional time (15 minutes per day), hiring additional counselors at each school level, adding a district school nurse, implementing security cameras and key card entry at all sites, expanding career technical education (CTE) programs, and creating a transitional first-grade program. The total funding requested is $1,144,563.
