This funding opportunity from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) aims to support innovative and breakthrough solutions critical to maximizing the potential of health information technology (Health IT) and achieving a transformed healthcare delivery system. The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) is seeking proposals that address well-documented and emerging challenges that inhibit the development, use, and advancement of well-designed, interoperable health IT. The opportunity is divided into three Areas of Interest: accelerating the use of agentic artificial intelligence (AI) solutions in clinical care and trials, expanding Lantern's API monitoring capabilities with community-driven feedback, and assessing laboratory interoperability gaps to improve the adoption and use of standard terminology among small, independent laboratories. ONC expects to award up to three cooperative agreements, with one award per area of interest. Area of Interest 1 will receive up to $1 million, while Areas of Interest 2 and 3 will each receive up to $500,000. The initial project and budget period will be two years, though applicants may submit for a three-year budget period. Eligibility is restricted to public or non-profit private institutions, state governments, and federally recognized tribal governments. For-profit organizations and foreign institutions may participate only as members of a consortium or as sub-recipients.
