The California Department of Conservation, Geologic Energy Management Division (CalGEM), is approving a permit for THUMS Long Beach Co. to rework the existing C-240 producer well in the Wilmington Oil Field, located offshore on Island Chaffee. The rework involves plugging back the existing completion, perforating a new section of the well, running and gravel packing a new 3-1/2" screen, and installing an electric submersible pump (ESP) to return the well to production. The project is classified as a Notice of Exemption under CEQA, citing categorical exemptions for existing facilities, replacement/reconstruction, and minor alterations to land.
