Description
The Bureau of Justice Assistance is soliciting applications for the FY 2026 DNA Capacity Enhancement for Backlog Reduction Formula Grants Program. The program supports eligible states and units of local government that own, control, or operate publicly funded crime laboratories conducting DNA analysis. Allowable activities include processing CODIS-eligible crime-scene and database samples, reducing forensic DNA and database backlogs, improving turnaround times, and increasing laboratory capacity for DNA analysis and CODIS entry. The program anticipates approximately 130 grants, with total funding of up to $88,898,250 and individual awards of up to $3,500,000. Applicants must submit applications through Grants.gov and JustGrants, including a proposal abstract, proposal narrative, budget materials, eligibility and budget certifications, baseline backlog data, a program income declaration, proof of DNA laboratory accreditation, and required DOJ disclosures and assurances. The expected award period is 24 months beginning January 1, 2027.
