NASA's Technology Transfer Program is soliciting inquiries from companies interested in obtaining license rights to commercialize, manufacture, and market a novel reversible androgynous mechanical fastener. This fastener, developed at NASA Ames Research Center, features high misalignment tolerance and is suitable for robotic actuation. It was designed for use in a high-performance building-block structural system that can be robotically assembled into large, reconfigurable structures, ranging from lunar habitats to terrestrial structures. The fastener employs alignment principles similar to the International Berthing and Docking Mechanism (IBDM) to relax positioning requirements for assembly robots. It is lightweight, provides a high-strength reversible mechanical connection, and is beneficial in applications where robotic end effectors join structural components, particularly where frequent movement of hardware is required. License rights may be issued on an exclusive or nonexclusive basis and may include specific fields of use. NASA provides no funding in conjunction with these potential licenses. Interested parties should submit a license application through NASA's Automated Technology Licensing Application System (ATLAS) at https://technology.nasa.gov/patent/TOP2-310.
