Description
The City of Asheville is requesting bids for construction improvements on the fourth floor of its Municipal Building. The scope includes removing approximately 1,500 square feet of wall carpet; preparing, repairing, and painting wall surfaces; installing approximately 25 feet by 6 feet of 3/4-inch AC-grade, fire-retardant-treated plywood securely fastened to the structural wall for a future 12-screen display wall; removing two interior window assemblies; infilling the openings; replacing floor trim in an alternate color; and preserving a small section of carpet for reuse in an occupied room. The plywood must support an anticipated total screen load of 624 pounds, with a required design capacity of approximately 936 to 1,248 pounds; drywall anchors are not permitted. The contractor must furnish labor, materials, equipment, and supervision; protect adjacent occupied areas and a data equipment room from dust, debris, vibration, moisture, and contamination; establish a floor-to-ceiling containment zone with fire-retardant plastic sheeting and HEPA-filtered negative air; protect remaining furniture; and obtain City approval of the work-protection method before starting. The City will provide the paint, while the contractor will apply it. No evening or weekend work is permitted. The City will handle hazardous-material abatement before work begins, and special inspections are no longer required. Addendum 1 must be acknowledged with the bid, or the submission may be deemed non-responsive.
