Description
The City of Newport News is soliciting a contractor to demolish and remove the one-story, 17,775-square-foot Unclaimed Freight Company commercial building at 10615 Jefferson Avenue. The scope includes removal and legal disposal of the structure, building materials, furnishings, plumbing, mechanical and electrical fixtures, debris, the Unclaimed Freight sign, and associated site materials; utility disconnection and protection; sewer-cap work; permits; traffic control; and restoration of disturbed areas. The contractor must address environmental requirements, including lead-based paint on the sign's vertical support beam, assumed Category I non-friable asbestos in roofing and floor tiles, potential asbestos discovered during demolition, refrigerant reclamation, and possible aboveground or underground storage tanks. The site must be cleared, fine graded, covered with at least four inches of clean topsoil, seeded and strawed. The project must be completed within 10 business days from the Notice to Proceed, with liquidated damages of $500 per calendar day. The bid requires a 5% bid bond, and the successful contractor must provide 100% performance and payment bonds and required insurance.
