The United States of America is seeking manual reverse osmosis desalinators to be included in survival kits. These devices must be compact and lightweight, fitting within specific dimensions of 2.5" Tall (Flat) x 16.5" Long x 12" Wide. The desalinator must be capable of producing at least 1 liter of potable water per hour from seawater, operate manually without external power, and be approved for survival raft use (e.g., FAA, NSN assignment). Additionally, the device must withstand saltwater immersion, high pressure, and rough handling, require minimal maintenance, and survive storage in harsh environments. These military-unique requirements, including patented RO membranes and specialized seals, differentiate them from commercial camping filters and consumer desalination systems.
