Description
Carroll County Division of Facilities is seeking a qualified contractor to repair a 145-foot, 4.5-inch red radial-brick chimney/tower and its wooden hood. Work includes repointing mortar joints, replacing spalled and cracked bricks, repairing the breaching jamb and clean-out door, restoring water-table components and sealant, repairing lightning-protection anchors, repairing and repainting 18 structural bands, and designing, fabricating, and installing a new vented cover with ventilation holes. All materials, repair methods, replacement bricks, mortar, moisture barriers, test patches, vented-cover designs, and ventilation work require approval from the Maryland Historical Trust and the County. The contractor must provide a construction Gantt chart, obtain required permits and inspections, coordinate with the County and the Maryland Historical Trust, address bats or other organisms found in the tower in accordance with applicable laws, provide a dumpster, and secure tools, equipment, and materials at the end of each workday. The solicitation requires a firm lump-sum bid, a one-year warranty, three similar recent references, and a 5% bid bond; performance and payment bonds of 100% of the contract price are required from the successful bidder for contracts exceeding $100,000.
