Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is offering a licensing opportunity for the Autonomous Ion Mass Spectrometer Sentry (AIMSS), a high-resolution ion mass spectrometer designed to measure the space plasma environment in low-Earth orbit (LEO). The instrument uses electric and magnetic fields to sort ions by energy and mass, enabling simultaneous measurement of multiple ion species and clear separation of closely spaced species such as nitrogen (N+) and oxygen (O+). This capability is critical for space weather forecasting, spacecraft anomaly attribution, and monitoring spacecraft charging and contamination. AIMSS is flight-qualified (TRL 6) and is scheduled to launch to the International Space Station on May 12, 2026. The technology is protected by multiple patents and patent applications. LANL is seeking partners for exclusive or non-exclusive licensing agreements. This is not a call for external services for the development of this technology.
