Description
The City of Charlotte is soliciting proposals for the overhaul of CATS IV streetcar truck equipment. The work must satisfy original equipment manufacturer requirements for the truck, hydraulic, and braking systems, as well as maintenance requirements for low-floor axles, wheelsets, and journal-bearing equipment. The selected contractor must perform the required maintenance to specifications and meet all applicable OEM standards. The City's RCM department will remove and prepare selected equipment for shipment, and the Rail Inventory department will coordinate shipment to the selected overhaul vendor. The project is intended to maintain streetcar reliability, safety, and on-time service through the vehicles' useful life. Siemens recommends truck overhauls at 15-year or 270,000-mile intervals, low-floor axle and wheelset overhauls at 300,000-mile intervals, and journal-bearing equipment overhauls at six-year or 310,000-mile intervals.
