Description
The Community Food Projects Competitive Grants Program (CFPCGP) aims to provide a one-time infusion of Federal funding to help communities develop self-reliance and long-term solutions to local food needs. Projects must address both short-term food access challenges and long-term goals, such as building community self-reliance and strengthening local food system infrastructure. The program is authorized by 7 U.S.C. 2034 and encourages projects that foster understanding of national food security trends and improve local food systems. Eligible applicants include public food program service providers, tribal organizations, and private nonprofit entities with experience in community food work, job training for food-related activities, or efforts to reduce food and nutrition insecurity. Applicants must demonstrate competency in project implementation, fiscal accountability, data collection, and reporting. The program offers three types of projects: Training and Technical Assistance (T&TA), Planning Projects (PP), and Community Food Projects (CFP). T&TA grants are limited to one award per year, not exceeding $250,000 annually or $1 million over four years. Planning Projects have a grant duration of 12-36 months with awards ranging from $25,000 to $50,000, requiring a 1:1 match. Community Food Projects have a duration of up to 48 months with awards ranging from $125,000 to $400,000, also requiring a 1:1 match.
