Description
The City of Virginia Beach is soliciting construction bids for pedestrian improvements at the intersection of Independence Boulevard and Baxter Road near Virginia Beach Town Center. The project includes a pedestrian crossing from South Boulevard to Baxter Road and across Baxter Road, widening an existing concrete median, installing ADA-compliant curb ramps and a pedestrian refuge, reconstructing sidewalks, curbs, gutters, entrances, pavement, and landscaping, and installing pavement markings and signs. The work also includes traffic signal modifications, including pedestrian signal heads, accessible pedestrian pushbuttons, signal poles and foundations, junction boxes, conduits, conductor cable, vehicle loop detection, signal timing implementation, and related traffic-control devices. Contractors must maintain traffic and pedestrian access, provide erosion and sediment controls, coordinate utilities, perform required quality-control testing and certifications, and comply with the project manual, Virginia Department of Transportation requirements, and City of Virginia Beach standards. The project manual includes a sample base-bid schedule totaling $510,290, but the project-specific schedule of prices does not state a completed total bid amount.
