Description
The City of Grand Rapids is soliciting bids for removal and replacement of approximately 820 linear feet of existing 2.5-inch copper boiler supply and return lines in a shared trench at the Market Avenue Retention Basin. The work includes selective demolition and disposal, installation of new Type K copper piping, passive corrosion protection, pipe insulation, pressure and leak testing, flushing, final connections, restoration, and related excavation and backfill. Bidders may use either a high-temperature wax-tape and closed-cell insulation system or an approved high-build polyurethane foam system that provides both corrosion protection and insulation. The project requires field measurements, shop drawings, a demolition work plan and schedule, coordination with the owner and engineer, and compliance with applicable construction specifications. The new boiler lines must be installed before October 30, 2026, and the boiler system must operate leak-free for 28 consecutive days before acceptance. Bids are unit-price bids submitted electronically; a bid bond or certified cashier’s check of at least 5% is required when the engineer’s estimate is $50,000 or more. The bid package also requires acknowledgment of addenda, subcontractor and supplier information, and applicable bid forms.
