Description
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Highlands Conservation Act program provides grants to eligible lead state conservation agencies for land acquisition projects in the Highlands Region of Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Projects may acquire fee interests or conservation easements on one or more parcels to protect resources of high conservation value, including water, forests, agricultural land, wildlife habitat, recreation, or cultural resources. Acquisitions must meet the program’s geographic and eligibility criteria, and the applicant must demonstrate the project’s conservation benefits. The federal request may cover no more than 50% of total project costs, with a required 1:1 non-federal cost share. The funding notice lists awards from $25,000 to $2,293,362 per state. Applications require federal forms, a project narrative, a budget narrative, parcel maps, and other specified disclosures. Applications are submitted through Grants.gov or GrantSolutions.gov; the deadline is October 31, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.
