The Department of Veterans Affairs plans to award a firm-fixed-price construction contract to replace the fire suppression systems in Building 61. Work includes removing and disposing of existing equipment; replacing the attic dry-pipe sprinkler system and sprinkler heads on the first three floors; installing a nitrogen generator and new fire alarm control panels and system; connecting the new fire alarm system to campus monitoring; and associated cutting, patching, and finish repairs. The new systems must integrate with existing campus systems and be installed using new materials in accordance with manufacturer instructions and the construction documents. The draft statement of work describes a 365-calendar-day period of performance from notice to proceed and phased construction, with work coordinated around ongoing medical-center operations. The project magnitude is estimated at $1 million to $5 million, and a bid bond of at least 20% of the bid price, capped at $3 million, is required. The opportunity is set aside for Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses. This is a presolicitation notice; the RFP and final submission requirements are not yet provided.
