KING COUNTY LIBRARY SYSTEM (KCLS) Request for Qualifications KCLS Artists Roster, RFQ#: 2026-RFQ-029 The King County Library System (KCLS) invites qualified artists to submit a request for qualifications (RFQ) for: KCLS Artists Roster. In support of the KCLS Strategic Framework (https://kcls.org/strategy/), specifically the goal of supporting Communities of Inclusion and Belonging, KCLS is seeking to develop an Artists Roster that is broad in scope, including through the types of artwork, but is also reflective of the cultures and communities in which its 49+ library facilities reside. The vision for the KCLS Art Collection is to serve the community by selecting and maintaining artwork that reflects the diverse cultures, interests, and creativity of its patrons across the system. The mission includes selecting new art using approved criteria, with a focus on the interests of the local community and maintaining existing artwork to ensure its condition keeps the item accessible to patrons. This roster should reflect the breadth of experiences, cultures, histories, and perspectives that make up the region served by KCLS. The roster will be updated every three years. KCLS will utilize this artist roster for acquisition of existing 3D and 2D (framed or unframed) artwork, as well as site-specific commission opportunities. Description

The King County Rural Library District, doing business as the King County Library System, is establishing an Artists Roster to support future acquisition of existing two- and three-dimensional artwork and site-specific commissions for its library facilities. Eligible media include painting, photography, fiber arts and textiles, limited-edition prints, glass, ceramics, metal, mixed media, site-responsive installations, murals, outdoor sculpture, and artwork integrated into architecture. Digital, technology-based artwork, and artwork involving water are not preferred except in unique circumstances. Applicants must submit qualifications demonstrating relevant public-realm or library experience, community engagement, inclusive and equitable artistic practice, a biography or artist statement, education and training, a design-process statement, a portfolio of eight to ten recent works with detailed captions, and three professional references. Submittals are limited to 25 pages, with additional project-photograph sheets limited to 10 pages. The roster will be used for future project-specific artwork requests; inclusion does not guarantee acquisition, and each future project will have its own scope and budget. Art galleries may apply on behalf of up to five artists.
