Description
This technology licensing opportunity from the Department of Energy introduces a dimethyl ether (DME)-driven method for rejuvenating end-of-life lithium-ion battery (LIB) cells. The approach restores electrochemical performance without dismantling the cell, eliminating the need for shredding, separation, and component reconstruction steps required by conventional recycling. Preliminary data supports technical feasibility, and the technology may reduce reagent and energy inputs, lower capital and operational requirements, and provide a recycling pathway with no commercialized equivalent. Potential applications include direct rejuvenation of LIB cells from consumer electronics, stationary storage, and transportation, as well as integration into existing recycling facilities.
