Description
The Maryland Department of Health, Center for Cancer Prevention and Control, is seeking competitive applications for grants that enable local fire departments, volunteer fire companies, and volunteer fire departments to procure and administer innovative cancer screening tests for professional and volunteer firefighters. Eligible applicants must assemble a healthcare team, select an appropriate test independently of the testing company, prioritize firefighters at elevated cancer risk, administer screening and counseling, coordinate referrals, and maintain required records and reports. Applicants may partner with testing companies, but those companies and affiliated consultants may not serve as members of the applicant's healthcare team or provide the sole pre- and post-test counseling. Applications must include Forms 1-7, a project narrative, a separate budget form and budget justification/narrative, a transmittal letter, a signed W-9, and applicable eligibility documentation. Required supporting materials include scientific literature and evidence for the proposed test, the testing company's proposal or quote, and documentation of tax-exempt status or fire-department, county, local-government, or association eligibility, as applicable. The State intends to make multiple fixed-price awards totaling no more than $900,000. The anticipated grant period is March 1, 2027, through June 30, 2027, with no option period.
