The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is announcing the availability of up to $600 million in Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) Swift Current grants for fiscal year 2026. This program provides federal funds to states, U.S. territories, federally recognized tribal nations, and local governments to reduce or eliminate the risk of repetitive flood damage to buildings and structures insured under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and within NFIP-participating communities. Eligible projects are limited to individual flood mitigation projects for severe repetitive loss (SRL), repetitive loss (RL), or substantially damaged properties. Activities may include elevation, mitigation reconstruction, floodproofing, acquisition, and relocation. The federal cost share is generally up to 75%, with higher shares for SRL (up to 100%) and RL (up to 90%) properties. Applicants must have a FEMA-approved hazard mitigation plan and meet specific activation criteria based on flood-related disaster declarations and NFIP claims. Applications are submitted through the FEMA GO system, with deadlines varying by applicant based on activation dates.
