Description
The U.S. Department of Energy's Biological and Environmental Research program is seeking voluntary input on the scientific bottlenecks, missing capabilities, and near-term challenges that limit the transition from descriptive biology to predictive, engineering-focused biosystems design. The RFI covers biomolecules and proteins, cells and intercellular systems, microbiomes and microorganisms, plants, and cell-free systems, with an emphasis on producing bio-advantaged fuels, chemicals, materials, and other products. Respondents are invited to address fundamental biodesign goals, high-priority biotechnology application areas, and effective public-private, cross-agency, and Genesis Mission collaboration models. Responses may inform strategic priorities, workshop planning, future program development, and funding mechanisms. Responses must be succinct, no more than two pages, machine-readable, and submitted as a single PDF attachment; classified, business-confidential, and proprietary information should not be included.
