Description
This construction project rehabilitates Wood River Road Bridge No. 056601, which carries Switch Road over the Wood River. The work includes removal and replacement of backwalls, portions of abutment stems, approach slabs, bridge deck ends, bearings, and bridge joints; reconstruction of the bituminous wearing surface over a waterproofing membrane; concrete patching and fiber-reinforced-polymer repairs to prestressed concrete beams; temporary jacking and shoring; abutment and riprap repairs; and installation of guardrail, end treatments, pavement markings, wildlife fencing, and erosion controls. The project must be completed in two phases, with alternating one-way traffic controlled by a temporary signal during the first phase. The contractor must furnish, install, maintain, and relocate temporary traffic protection and two solar-powered, battery-backed portable traffic signal units with video detection and radio communication. Construction beneath the bridge must occur during the low-flow season and above the ordinary high-water level. Federal-aid requirements include Buy America compliance, federal forms, nondiscrimination assurances, prevailing wage requirements, and environmental protections for bats, migratory birds, eastern spadefoot toads, and wood turtles. The estimated total is $3,160,475, with interim completion required by December 7, 2027, substantial completion by October 23, 2028, and final acceptance by June 14, 2029.
