Description
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is soliciting sealed electronic bids for construction safety improvements at the Portland Avenue and Depot Road railroad crossing in Ridgefield. The work includes removal and installation of rubber grade-crossing panels; removal of abandoned railroad equipment, concrete curbing, fencing, signs, poles, handholes, and related equipment; installation of railroad device foundations, traffic signals and detection equipment, steel bollards, pedestrian and ornamental railings, signs, crushed stone, pavement crack sealing, concrete sealing, turf and conservation seeding, and associated roadway and pedestrian improvements. The contractor must coordinate work within Metro-North Railroad territory and maintain railroad, vehicular, and pedestrian operations. Requirements include railroad safety training, traffic maintenance and protection, environmental controls, Buy America compliance, prevailing and federal wage requirements, electronic project management and payroll systems, prequalification for CTDOT Group 6 road construction, and a minimum 30% self-performance requirement. The contract allows 147 calendar days for completion and carries liquidated damages of $1,200 per calendar day.
