Description
The Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program (GusNIP) - Produce Prescription Program (PPR) aims to improve the nutrition and health status of participating households by increasing the consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables. This grant opportunity supports projects that demonstrate and evaluate the impact of prescribing fresh produce on dietary health, food insecurity, and healthcare costs. Eligible applicants include governmental agencies and nonprofit organizations, which must partner with a healthcare entity such as a hospital, federally qualified health center, or a clinic operated by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Projects must prescribe fresh fruits and vegetables and may include financial or non-financial incentives for procurement, nutrition education, or establishing accessible locations for produce procurement. The total estimated program funding is $5,280,800, with individual awards ranging from $500,000 to $500,000, for projects up to 3 years in duration. Applicants are encouraged to foster partnerships across the food and healthcare systems to enhance food and nutrition security.
