The Academic Career Excellence (ACE) Award (K32) aims to support early-stage postdoctoral scholars in conducting rigorous, mentored scientific research and career development for up to three years. The program encourages innovative applications with the potential for significant impact on scientific research and career development, fostering early, goal-directed planning. While preliminary data is not required, the award emphasizes innovative research ideas and thoughtful training and mentorship plans to help scholars become independent investigators in fields relevant to the National Institutes of Health's mission. Eligibility is restricted to U.S. organizations and domestic components of U.S. organizations; foreign organizations and foreign components of U.S. organizations are not eligible. Foreign components are permitted. This grant opportunity falls under the discretionary funding category of health and is associated with several Assistance Listings, including Extramural Research Programs in the Neurosciences and Neurological Disorders (93.853), Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research (93.855), Cancer Research Manpower (93.398), Discovery and Applied Research for Technological Innovations to Improve Human Health (93.286), and Oral Diseases and Disorders Research (93.121).
