Description

The Department of War's Fiscal Year 2027 Defense University Research Instrumentation Program provides grants for the acquisition of major research equipment or instrumentation that augments or establishes university research capabilities in areas important to national defense. Eligible applicants are accredited U.S. institutions of higher education with degree-granting programs in science, mathematics, and/or engineering; for-profit institutions and federally funded research and development centers are ineligible. University Affiliated Research Centers may participate. Awards generally range from $50,000 to $3,000,000, with limited exceptions and an AFOSR maximum of $7,000,000. Approximately $28 million is available for 12 months, pending appropriations. Equipment may include computing equipment for defense-relevant research, but purely instructional equipment and general-purpose computing facilities are ineligible. No cost sharing or matching is required. Applicants must explain the equipment's effect on research and research-related education, its relationship to defense research priorities, integration with existing facilities, support for the associated research, acquisition or installation circumstances, and estimated useful life. The initial period of performance is expected to be 12 months, with a possible no-cost extension of up to 12 additional months. Applications require Grants.gov forms and attachments, including a technical proposal, project summary/abstract, bibliography or references cited, facilities and other resources information, budget and budget justification, senior/key-person biosketches and current and pending support, Collaborators and Other Affiliations information, Privacy Act consent forms for covered individuals, research security training certifications, and a compliance attestation. Equipment and instrumentation attachments must be PDF files, and the technical proposal is limited to 25 pages using 8.5-by-11-inch paper, one-inch margins, single spacing, and 12-point Times New Roman font.
