Description
The City of Afton is seeking a qualified history consultant to support interactive historical map projects for the Old Village and Valley Creek tours. The consultant will research Afton, Minnesota, and Indigenous history and culture; work with local, county, and state archives and other repositories; obtain historic plats and background materials; document former building locations; and prepare historical summaries for at least 10 sites. The work also includes selecting historical stories and photographs from primary sources, obtaining permissions for use, providing complete citations, revising materials with the Afton Heritage Preservation Commission, and coordinating with a technology consultant to upload content to the online tour site. The anticipated period is October 2026 through September 2027, contingent on successful grant funding.
