Description
The City of Afton is seeking a history consultant for its Valley Creek Tour History Project. The consultant will research Afton and Valley Creek history using resources from state, county, local, and other archives; write historical text for at least 10 significant sites; and develop at least one historically contextualized story and photograph from primary documents. Work must include complete citations and permission to publish source materials, follow the format of the existing online Afton Old Village Tour, and address inclusive history, including Indigenous history and culture. The consultant will revise text, stories, and documents with the Afton Heritage Preservation Commission, work with a technology consultant to upload materials to the online tour, and meet research grant deadlines. The position is expected to run from October 2026 through September 2027 and is contingent upon successful grant funding. The related technology consultant scope includes interactive maps, photography, and audio features, but those services are described in a separate solicitation and are not part of this history consultant scope.
