Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is offering a licensing opportunity for their Polybenzimidazole (PBI) High-Temperature Hollow Fiber Membranes. This technology is designed for process environments where standard polymer membranes struggle with performance and durability, offering improved separation efficiency, chemical resistance, and compact design. The membranes are fabricated using a method that creates asymmetric hollow fibers from PBI, a polymer known for its thermal and chemical stability. The process allows for control over the selective layer thickness and produces macrovoid-free fibers, enhancing durability. The technology can operate at temperatures up to approximately 400°C and has demonstrated stable performance in relevant operating environments, making it suitable for gas and liquid separations. Key advantages include operation in high-temperature and harsh chemical conditions, a compact module design, easier scaling compared to ceramic membranes, and reduced costs for applications like hydrogen purification. Market applications span energy generation, oil and gas, chemical processing, industrial water treatment, advanced fuels, and specialty manufacturing. This is a TRL 5 technology, and specific patent information (US Patent No. 10,071,345) is available. This is not a call for external services for development.
