The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) will host the Multi X Office (MXO) Spark Tank event from November 2-4, 2026, in Chicago, Illinois. This event is for prospective proposers and future MXO collaborators. Advance registration is required and will open on August 10, 2026, with no on-site registration available. The event will be held in-person only and will feature presentations by DARPA personnel, including MXO Program Managers, as well as opportunities for one-on-one engagement with MXO Program Managers and Leadership through sidebar meetings. The goals of the MXO Spark Tank are to familiarize participants with MXO's mission, interest areas, and ongoing efforts; facilitate discussions with potential proposers; increase the efficiency of proposal preparation and evaluation; and broaden DARPA's reach with small businesses, educational institutions, and other non-traditional performers. The event will be conducted at an unclassified level, and all attendees must present government-issued photo identification. Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDC), University Affiliated Research Centers (UARC), and Government Entities are discouraged from attending. MXO's mission focuses on disrupting the development and use of technology by applying physical sciences broadly and unconventionally to deliver innovative capabilities. The office explores materials at the atomic, molecular, and cellular scales to develop novel components, tools, and processes. MXO's three thrusts are: Thrust 1 - Materials and components to expand foundations; Thrust 2 - Tools and processes for indigenous development; and Thrust 3 - New modalities to achieve mission effects. Specific areas of interest for Program Managers include quantum sensing, advanced computing hardware, novel optics and microsystems, resilient optical and RF sensors, molecular engineering for sensing and computation, and advanced materials synthesis.
