Description
The Department of War Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative supports high-risk, multidisciplinary basic research by eligible U.S. institutions of higher education with degree-granting science or engineering programs. The announcement covers 16 topics across the Army Research Office, Office of Naval Research, and Air Force Office of Scientific Research, including quantum materials and information, artificial intelligence for scientific discovery, advanced materials, biofilms, electrochemical materials, atmospheric communications, and autonomous self-healing structures. Applicants must submit an application through Grants.gov; optional white papers are encouraged and may be submitted through agency-specific channels. Full proposals require the Grants.gov Research and Related forms and attachments, including a project summary/abstract, technical proposal, data management plan when applicable, bibliography, facilities and equipment information, budget and budget justification, senior/key-person profiles, current and pending support, and required certifications. Attachments must be PDF files without macros or password protection. The typical award profile is up to $1.5 million annually for a three-year base period plus two one-year option periods, for a potential five-year total of up to $7.5 million; the total program funding is estimated at $170 million.
