Battelle Energy Alliance, LLC, the management and operating contractor for Idaho National Laboratory, is seeking expressions of interest from U.S.-university-led teams for research that increases the value of seed oil crops. Proposed work should address post-harvest preprocessing, storage, separations, scalable fractionation, and/or valorization of non-oil seed components by reducing processing costs, increasing yields, and generating valuable product streams. Research must demonstrate scalability to field applications when conducted at bench scale; upstream agronomy, crop engineering, and genetic engineering, as well as downstream new conversion technologies, are outside the stated interest. Selected teams will collaborate with Idaho National Laboratory's Biomass Feedstock National User Facility and generate data supporting an INL-led technoeconomic assessment. The anticipated project duration is 12 to 24 months, with approximately 0.25 FTE for the principal investigator and 1.0 to 3.0 FTEs for technicians, postdoctoral researchers, or students. Laboratory consumables may be included, while non-consumable equipment and planned travel require specification and approval. Responses must include core-team information and resumes or curricula vitae, plus a three- to five-page statement covering the proposed objective, approach, scale and technology readiness level, team roles and resources, and collaboration with the facility and technoeconomic assessment effort. This is an expression-of-interest and sources-sought stage; selected respondents may later receive a formal request for proposal.
