Description
Idaho National Laboratory and Argonne National Laboratory are seeking qualified suppliers of non-lithium rechargeable electrochemical long-duration energy storage systems for benchmark performance testing. The requested systems must provide 10 hours of continuous discharge and bidirectional charging and discharging. The requirement includes two module-scale systems rated at approximately 10 kW and 100 kWh each, plus one full-scale system rated at approximately 100 kW and 1,000 kWh. Systems must be pre-built, have a minimum expected lifetime of 15 years, operate across 0–50°C within specified performance limits, and support AC and isolated DC power export. Suppliers must provide technical evidence, system dimensions and weights, AC/DC interface information, monitoring and communications capabilities, safety and compliance documentation, hazard assessments, emergency response guidance, performance and degradation data, maintenance and support plans, design and testing documentation, commissioning support, schedules, indicative pricing, and warranty/support terms. Required standards and certifications include NFPA 855, UL 9540/9540A or equivalent, and applicable NEC/IEEE standards. Lithium-ion, lithium-metal, lead-acid, redox-flow, non-rechargeable, non-electrochemical, on-site-fabricated, and systems with less than 15 years of durability are unacceptable. This is a Sources Sought/Expression of Interest notice intended to inform a potential future RFP; selected respondents may later be invited to participate in that RFP.
