Description
Battelle Energy Alliance, LLC, the management and operating contractor for the Department of Energy-owned Idaho National Laboratory, is seeking expressions of interest from qualified firms for the design and fabrication of the SR-1 Freedom Reactor Radiation Shielding system. The system will shield spacecraft components from reactor neutron and gamma-photon radiation, weigh less than 1,200 kg, interface with the reactor structure, control drum actuators, heat-management-system heat pipes, and power-conversion-system structure, and operate in the vacuum of space across temperatures from approximately -273°C to 800°C. It must also withstand launch forces and vibration and satisfy specified radiation-dose and neutron-fluence limits.
